Molecular biological testing is arguably the fastest-growing field of medical laboratory science. Everight runs real-time PCR in a Level-3 biosafety laboratory — the capability behind its national recognition in COVID-19 testing.
A national first
Under the leadership of Dr Everest Okpara, Everight developed a level-3 biosafety laboratory with molecular capabilities at its Owerri branch in 2019.
It was recognised as the first private laboratory to obtain special approval from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) to offer COVID-19 PCR tests in Nigeria, and was also one of the first sets of private laboratories approved by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to provide real-time COVID-19 PCR tests.
When the Abuja facility opened in 2020, it opened with the same capability.

Inside the run
Logged and checked against the request. Sample type, quantity and temperature are all verified on arrival.
Nucleic acid is extracted from the sample inside the Level-3 containment environment.
Real-time PCR on QuantStudio-6 Flex or Rotor-Gene Q — detection and, where the assay calls for it, quantification.
Results are reviewed against controls before anything is released.
